Totnes Show - Review

Despite WW1 mud conditions - it was a good Show - pity about the traffic!

Wednesday last week it poured with rain all day. We arrived to set up our Stand only to find our pitch under 6 inches of water, happily we were relocated to a "drier" spot which was only sodden, with grass still visible. Vehicles were being towed in by massive tractors which did wonders for the grass. On Thursday, the day of the Show, we arrived in Totnes at 07.30 and then were in a traffic queue for 90 minutes caused by the road system around the Show site being jammed with Show vehicles once more being towed to their Stand positions.  The forecast for the day was "occasional light showers".

By 10.00 we had our llamas and alpacas in place together with our Stand of alpaca products when the first "light shower" fell - more of a monsoon downpour really. However the upside was our 'gazebos' being used by visitors to the Show as shelter which provided opportunity to introduce them to alpaca products!

Despite several more downpours, visitor numbers were good with much interest in the animals. By noon, the last vestiges of grass outside the animal pens had disappeared into a sea of sticky red mud - not good for the many designer wellies around. Nevertheless good humour persisted and the day was a great success. One downside though was the continued "all day" traffic jam almost back to the A38 which saw many visitors giving up after queuing for 2 hours and moving about 100 yards .

Oh Happy Days!
