Open Day 2008

After last year's success, the Dartmoor Alliance is staging another Open Day at Lakeham Farm on 13th September

Now that we have completed Bluetongue vaccination of our animals, we are "go" to stage a second Open Day with our Alliance partners.

This year, we will have Alpacas, Llamas with Kune Kune pigs and Pygmy goats in addition with sundry chickens and guinea fowl ad libbing around the place.

The Event is organised, as previously, to support the WaWa Charity which works to aid poor children in Peru.

The Day is intended, first and foremost as a Family Fun Day, with an accent on spreading knowledge about camelids and their place in Britain today. Dartmoor Alliance Members will be around to introduce visitors - children in particular - to the animals and to answer any and all questions. Further entertainment will include treasure hunt/quizzes, tombola and "name the babe" competitions for our latest alpaca additions.

Alpaca products, fleeces and wool will be available for sale and alpaca handling equipment will also be on display.

Mini llama walks will be held as "tasters" for the real thing as offered by Dartmoor Llama Walks ending in a childrens play area with a supervised tree house and slide.

Entry will be £2.00 per adult, children free, the ticket cost to include provision of a cup of tea/coffee  - squash for children. Further refreshment will include superb burgers and sausages from "Proper Pork ", see www.properporkdevon.co.uk. Devon cream teas and delectable cakes at attractive prices.
